Breaking: Nigerian Exam Body JAMB Admits to Errors in 2025 UTME Following Public Outcry Over Mass Failure

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has acknowledged that certain errors occurred during the conduct of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), contributing to the poor performance of candidates nationwide.

This admission came during a press briefing held on Wednesday in Abuja, where the Registrar of the Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, confirmed that mistakes were identified following a comprehensive internal review of the examination process and results.

“What should have been a moment of joy has changed due to one or two errors,” Oloyede stated, according to The PUNCH.

The development follows widespread criticism from education stakeholders, parents, and civil society organizations who have decried the alarming rate of failure recorded in this year’s UTME. Over 70% of the candidates reportedly scored below the benchmark of 200, sparking calls for transparency and accountability.

Further pressure mounted when a law firm, John Nwobodo & Associates, representing over 1.5 million affected candidates, formally requested the release of the 2025 UTME questions and answer scripts. The firm raised concerns over the integrity of the examination results and suggested a possible malfunction in JAMB’s software.

Despite several attempts to reach JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, for further clarification, there has been no official response as of press time.

The admission by JAMB may open the door to further investigations and potential redress for the affected candidates as public scrutiny over the examination body’s operations intensifies.
