United Airlines Launches First Direct Flight from Washington D.C. to Dakar

United Airlines has officially launched its first direct flight route from Washington D.C. to Dakar, Senegal, with the inaugural flight landing this morning at Blaise Diagne International Airport.

The milestone was celebrated by U.S. Ambassador to Senegal, Michael Raynor, who emphasized the significance of the new connection between the two nations.

“Today, United Airlines is launching not only a new airline, but also new ways to bring our two nations closer together,” Ambassador Raynor stated.

He highlighted that United’s entry into French-speaking West Africa — with Senegal as its first destination — is a testament to the confidence the U.S. government and private sector have in the region.

“It speaks volumes about the potential that the private sector and the United States government see in this region, and in Senegal in particular, as a dynamic and democratic center with a strategic location, a fast-growing economy, and a talented workforce,” he said.

The Ambassador expressed personal enthusiasm for what the new route means for tourism and cultural exchange.

“I am particularly excited that this new alliance will allow more Americans to discover Senegal, a wonderful country of cultural vibrancy, limitless potential and generous spirit of Teranga,” he added, referring to the renowned Senegalese hospitality.
