Americans Angry with Trump: “Attack on Iran Unconstitutional” — Bernie Sanders

A wave of anger is sweeping across the United States following President Donald Trump’s announcement of a unilateral military strike on Iran, which he described as a “very successful attack” on three nuclear sites.

Reacting swiftly to the news, Senator Bernie Sanders condemned the action in a video message, warning that it bypassed the authority of the U.S. Congress and posed a serious threat to constitutional democracy.

“This is a statement from Donald Trump,” Sanders began. “Quote, we have completed our very successful attack on the three nuclear sites in Iran, etc. Not only is this news that I just heard alarming to all of you who have just heard it, but it is so grossly unconstitutional.”

Sanders emphasized the legal and moral implications of such a move, reiterating that only Congress has the constitutional power to declare war:

“All of you know that the only entity that can take this country to war is the U.S. Congress. The president does not have the right.”

Critics from across the political spectrum have joined Sanders in condemning the act as reckless, unconstitutional, and potentially destabilizing for the Middle East.

Advocacy groups and war powers scholars argue that Trump’s action not only endangers American lives but also erodes democratic checks and balances.

Calls are mounting for Congress to urgently reassert its war-making authority, and some lawmakers are reportedly drafting resolutions to censure or limit presidential powers in future conflicts.
