Tehran Applauds OIC’s ‘Unequivocal Support’ as Israeli Strikes Stoke Muslim World Anger

Iran has commended the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for its resolute support following recent Israeli attacks, warning of growing Muslim outrage as tensions escalate in the region.
During the opening session of the 51st OIC Council of Foreign Ministers held in Istanbul, the OIC Secretary-General, Hissein Brahim Taha, delivered a powerful address condemning the Israeli strikes on Iran and reaffirming the organisation’s unwavering solidarity with Tehran.
“We reaffirm our strong support for Tehran,” Brahim Taha stated, while denouncing what he described as “blatant attacks” on the Islamic Republic of Iran. He further reiterated the OIC General Secretariat’s “strong condemnation of these attacks.”
Taha also emphasized that the Palestinian cause remains central to the organisation’s mission, describing Israel’s military aggression in Gaza as crimes involving genocide, forced displacement, starvation, destruction, and the Judaisation of Jerusalem.
He called for greater international action to support Palestinians, highlighting the urgent need to protect UNRWA and resist Israeli settlement policies.
Beyond the Israel-Iran conflict, the Secretary-General addressed a range of regional concerns, urging support for transitional processes in Syria, solidarity with Somalia, and increased attention to the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin regions.
He reiterated the need for peaceful conflict resolution and sustainable development throughout OIC member states.
Brahim Taha expressed gratitude to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for hosting the session and commended Cameroon for its previous leadership.
He also acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s strong backing of Islamic solidarity and extended appreciation to the Republic of Gambia.
He reaffirmed the OIC’s support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination and pledged ongoing humanitarian and developmental assistance to Afghanistan. Additionally, he emphasized the organisation’s stance on Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
The Secretary-General called for intensified efforts to combat terrorism, Islamophobia, and religious hatred. In this regard, he welcomed the recent appointment of Mr. Miguel Angel Moratinos as the UN Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia, expressing hope that it would “strengthen international efforts” against religious discrimination.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry official Abbas Araghchi took to social media to thank the OIC for its backing while blasting Western governments for their silence.
“Iran is deeply grateful for the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) expression of full and unequivocal support in the face of the Israeli regime’s aggression,” Araghchi tweeted. “While the West has turned a blind eye to Israel’s atrocities—not just against Iran, but against Muslims across the region—there is unprecedented outrage and a groundswell of solidarity in the Islamic world. The West, having totally lost its moral compass, should take note.”
