AUSSOM Confirms AU Helicopter Crash at Mogadishu Airport, Rescue Efforts Ongoing

The African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) has confirmed the crash-landing of an African Union helicopter operated by the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) contingent at Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu.
The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday as the helicopter was enroute from the Baledogle military airbase to Mogadishu.
According to the official statement released by AUSSOM (PR/11/2025), the aircraft crash-landed just before it was due to touch down at the airport.
Out of the eight individuals on board, three were successfully rescued and immediately transported to the AUSSOM Level II hospital in Mogadishu for medical attention. Their condition was not disclosed.
“Search and rescue operations are currently underway to retrieve the remaining crew and passengers,” the statement confirmed.
In the meantime, aviation authorities have launched investigations to determine the cause of the crash.
