President Barrow initiates transformative educational, infrastructural developments

In a groundbreaking move, President Barrow spearheaded a series of transformative initiatives on Saturday, November 25, 2023, as part of his ongoing Meet the People Tour. The day was marked by the laying of the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art early childhood learning centre in Mankamang Kunda.

President Barrow’s commitment to accessible education was evident as he addressed the necessity of this new facility, highlighting that upon completion, children under five would no longer have to trek a kilometer to attend school at such a tender age. Notably, the last nursery school in Mankamang was established by missionaries in the early seventies.

Adding to this educational fervor, the President visited the construction site of classrooms for an Upper and Senior Secondary School at Bakadagie.

The current enrollment figures, with a hundred boys and two hundred girls, reflect a commendable push towards gender-inclusive education.

Continuing his tour, President Barrow took stock of the progress at the Ahmadiya Mission School in Basse, Nasir Ahmadiya. Here, construction efforts were underway for classrooms, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) facilities, and science labs.

Expressing delight during his first visit, the President commended the Ahmadiya for providing a conducive learning environment and assured them of the government’s continued partnership.

In a multifaceted approach to development, the Ahmadiya Muslim Jamat in The Gambia, under President Barrow’s patronage, laid the foundation stone for a hospital in Basse.

The day concluded with a joint meeting at Basse Mansajang Kunda, where President Barrow addressed concerns about the work ethic of some civil servants.

Emphasizing his commitment to reforms, he announced the establishment of a separate Ministry of Public Service to monitor and address non-performing civil servants. The President stressed the importance of punctuality and unveiled plans for a new clocking system.

Touching on regional development, President Barrow pledged his steadfast determination to bring progress to the people. He explained the decentralization of infrastructure development, clarifying that roadworks, especially feeder roads, cannot occur simultaneously in all communities, ensuring a more inclusive approach to national development.
