According to Lowe, the team behind the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund gathered to provide the community with updates on the upcoming project, which aims to tackle the pressing environmental issues facing Banjul.
This pioneering initiative targets youth-led and youth-focused organizations and is supported by United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University.
The first phase of the project will introduce a $50,000 micro-grant fund designed to support innovative climate action solutions.

The initiative will provide access to expertise from both local and international professionals, fostering a collaborative environment for tackling climate challenges.
Residents and interested parties are urged to stay informed by following the city’s social media pages for continuous updates and details on how to apply for the grants. Mayor Lowe expressed her optimism about the project’s impact, stating, “We are one step closer to a Banjul Safe City!”
In her message, Mayor Lowe extended her gratitude to Bloomberg Philanthropies, UCLG, and the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation for their crucial support. She emphasized that with their backing, the city will harness the creativity and dedication of its youth to build a safer and more sustainable Banjul.
