ECOWAS launches gender programmes in Côte d’Ivoire
In a significant move to advance gender equality and empowerment, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) officially launched its gender programmes in Côte d’Ivoire.
His Excellency Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, Chairman of the ECOWAS Committee, and Her Excellency Mrs. Memounatou Ibrahima, Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, arrived in Abidjan on Thursday to mark the occasion.
They were welcomed at the airport by Professor Fatou Sow Sarr, Commissioner for Human Development and Social Affairs; Commissioner Massandje Toure-Litse, in charge of Economic Affairs and Agriculture; and Her Excellency Mrs. Fanta Cissé, Resident Representative of ECOWAS in Côte d’Ivoire.
The launch of these gender programmes underscores ECOWAS’s commitment to fostering gender equality and empowering women across the region.
This initiative aims to address and reduce gender disparities, promote women’s rights, and enhance their participation in economic and social development.
