Ghana welcomes over 2,000 tourists as Serenade of Seas docks at Takoradi

In a significant boost to Ghana’s tourism sector, the cruise vessel Serenade of the Seas arrived at Takoradi Harbour on June 5th, 2024, marking a remarkable event as the largest tourist vessel to visit the country to date.

The ship, boasting a passenger capacity of 2,490 and staffed by 891 crew members, berthed at approximately 7:00 am and departed at 3:30 pm the same day.


Over 200 enthusiastic tourists onboard took the opportunity to explore Ghana’s rich cultural and historical sites. Highlights of their visit included tours to the iconic Elmina and Cape Coast Castles, the lush Kakum National Park, the bustling Bosomtwe Sam fishing Harbour, and local cocoa farms, providing a diverse experience of Ghana’s heritage and natural beauty.

This visit by Serenade of the Seas marks the fifth tourist vessel to dock at Takoradi Harbour this year, with more expected before year’s end. This influx of tourists is a testament to Ghana’s growing appeal as a prime travel destination.

Ghana’s tourism industry has seen significant growth, generating $2.5 billion from 914,892 international tourists in 2022. The nation has also attracted a host of high-profile visitors, including celebrities such as Meek Mill, Dave Chappelle, Letitia Wright, T-Pain, Skepta, Stormzy, Chance The Rapper, Stefflon Don, Dadju, Sway, Vic Mensa, Charlamagne, Bas, Jeremih, Masego, and Ramz.
