50 women in Chipata empowered with tailoring skills, tools

Fifty women from Chipata, Luangeni, and Chipangali have received certificates of completion for a comprehensive training program in tailoring and fashion design.

The training, which spanned over six weeks at Chipata Trades, was aimed at equipping these women with essential skills to uplift them out of poverty and vulnerability.

The event marked not only the culmination of their training but also the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. Each of the women was gifted a brand-new sewing machine, along with sewing needles and a starter kit of materials.

This generous empowerment initiative was made possible through the sponsorship of the Humanitarian Organization, Direct Aid Society, at a substantial cost of over 1 million Kwacha.

The initiative is more than just a training program; it is a beacon of hope and a pathway to sustainable livelihoods for these women. With their newly acquired skills and tools, they are now equipped to support their families and households, ensuring a stable and prosperous future.

One of the beneficiaries, Mary Zulu from Chipata, expressed her gratitude, saying, “This training has been a life-changing experience. With these skills and tools, I can now provide for my family and contribute to our community’s growth.”

The Direct Aid Society’s representative highlighted the importance of such initiatives in fostering community development and reducing poverty. “Empowering women is at the heart of our mission. We believe that by equipping women with skills and resources, we are not only uplifting individual families but also contributing to the overall development of the community,” they remarked.

This empowerment project underscores the transformative power of education and skill development in changing lives.
