Banjul: Mayor Lowe hosts first-ever stakeholder consultation on volunteered local review

Mayor of Banjul, Malick Lowe, has held the first-ever important stakeholder consultation meeting on Volunteered Local Review (VLR), marking a significant milestone in the city’s developmental journey.

This event, as announced by Mayor Lowe on her Facebook page, sets the stage for an inclusive and collaborative future for Banjul.


Mayor Lowe expressed her profound honor and privilege to embark on this significant journey with the people of Banjul. “Today marks a pivotal moment in our city’s development as we gather to review our progress, assess our challenges, and most importantly, to seek the valuable input of Banjulians to shape the future of our dear city, Banjul,” she stated.

The consultation aims to gather insights, suggestions, and inputs from various stakeholders, which are deemed essential for the success of this endeavor. Mayor Lowe emphasized the importance of this forum, stating, “Together, we will chart a common course that leads to a more sustainable, resilient, and prosperous Banjul.”

The mayor highlighted the need to seize this opportunity to forge stronger partnerships, foster innovation, and build a city that all Banjulians can take pride in.

Prioritizing equity, sustainability, and resilience, Mayor Lowe underscored the importance of investing in local infrastructure such as the Technical and Vocational Education Center (TIBET), health centers, capacity building initiatives, and microfinance for women and girls to create opportunities for all residents.

Looking forward to the discussions and the positive outcomes that will emerge, Mayor Lowe expressed gratitude to all partners and stakeholders. “To our partner – The UN Habitat, we are grateful. To the UN Resident Coordinator, UNICEF, UNDP, WFP, Gambia Immigration Department, Police, TANGO, and all other stakeholders, thank you for your insights. We truly appreciate it,” she added.
