Kenya: Odinga urges prudence, cautions against calls for Ruto’s resignation
Kenyan opposition leader Mzee Raila Odinga has issued a cautionary message to anti-government protesters, urging them to reconsider their demand for President William Ruto’s resignation.
Odinga emphasized that such a move could potentially lead to unintended and unfavorable outcomes for the nation.
Expressing his concerns, Odinga highlighted the possibility of Ruto’s deputy, H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, EGH, assuming power and implementing policies that may not align with the aspirations of the people.
The opposition leader drew attention to the potential consequences of such a scenario, citing the case of Egypt after the Tahrir Square protests, where a transfer of power to military generals resulted in chaos.
Odinga stressed that calling for Ruto’s resignation alone is not a comprehensive solution to the challenges facing the nation.
Instead, he emphasized the need for dialogue and inclusive discussions during times of crisis. His primary focus is on safeguarding the well-being and stability of Kenya, rather than targeting the presidency itself.
By cautioning against the demand for Ruto’s resignation, Odinga encourages a more prudent approach to address the concerns and grievances of the people. The opposition leader’s call for dialogue reflects his commitment to finding constructive solutions that prioritize the long-term interests and unity of the country.
