Nigerian Army intensifies operations in Taraba, arrests 3 kidnappers, rescues 2 victims
The Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, conducted an intensified operation in Taraba State. On 8 July 2024, troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) raided suspected kidnapper hideouts at Adamu Katibu Mountain in Lau Local Government Area.
The operation, based on thorough intelligence gathering and surveillance, resulted in the arrest of three suspected kidnappers and the rescue of two victims. The kidnappers, who were part of a notorious gang in the region, were apprehended after a fierce gunfight. The bravery and precision of the troops forced the gang to flee, leaving behind their hostages. The suspects, identified as Haruna Buba (20), Hassan Kakale, and Hussaini Kakale (both 28), were captured on the spot.
The rescued victims, Hauwa’u Alh Umaru and Asma’u Alh Umaru, had been abducted on 7 July 2024. They were immediately taken to Headquarters 6 Brigade for psychological and medical support before being reunited with their families.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade/ Sector 3 OPWS, commended the troops for their bravery and precision during the handover of the victims. He reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Taraba State residents.
In a separate incident in Wukari Local Government Area, troops responded to reports of sporadic shooting in Chinkai. Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered the lifeless body of one of the most wanted notorious terrorists in Southern Taraba and Awe Local Government Area in Nassarrawa State. Alhaji Gana, the terrorists’ kingpin, is suspected to have been killed during a shootout with a rival terrorist group. Gana’s brother, who was also involved in criminal activities, was also killed in the encounter.
This recent development showcases the Nigerian Army’s determination to combat terrorism and all forms of criminal activities. The Army remains dedicated to maintaining peace in Taraba State and beyond. Collaborating with other security agencies and stakeholders, the Army will continue to work tirelessly to protect citizens and bring criminals to justice.
The arrested suspects are currently being interrogated and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution. Meanwhile, the troops are actively pursuing all terrorist groups in the region.
