Kenya: Founder of Mombasa Cement Patel dies at 58

The founder of Mombasa Cement, Hasmukh Patel, has passed away.

Mombasa Cement and the Nyumba Group of Companies announced the news on their X accounts on Thursday, August 29, stating that the cornerstone of the Nyumba Group has passed away.


Mr. Patel was a philanthropist and the owner of Mombasa Cement in Kenya, along with multiple other businesses across East African countries.

According to a report by the Nation, family spokesperson Samir Bhaloo confirmed his death, stating that Mr. Patel, widely known as Hasu, passed away while receiving treatment at a hospital in Mombasa. He added that he died at the age of 58.

Bhaloo informed reporters that the philanthropist had been ill for two days, complaining of stomach pains.

The billionaire was a prominent industrialist and the founder of one of the largest cement industries in Kenya. He was also the director of Corrugated Iron Sheets in Kenya and Tororo Cement in Uganda.
