Public participation on Deputy President Gachagua’s impeachment sparks national engagement
Public participation in the impeachment process of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially commenced across Kenya, offering citizens an opportunity to share their views on the matter. The process is taking place in all 290 constituencies nationwide, with collection points set up in key locations such as Uasin Gishu, Meru, and Nairobi’s Bomas of Kenya.
Kenyans began arriving early to participate in the exercise, filling out questionnaires and making submissions on the special motion introduced by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse. This initiative allows citizens to play a direct role in the governance process, reflecting the importance of public involvement in critical national issues.
The National Assembly emphasized that the exercise is designed to be comprehensive, ensuring voices from all constituencies are heard. Despite legal challenges raised by Gachagua, the High Court ruled that public participation could proceed, with further hearings scheduled to take place next week.
