Nigeria Condemns Israeli Strike on Iran, Urges Immediate Ceasefire and Global Diplomatic Action

The Federal Republic of Nigeria has strongly condemned Israel’s recent preemptive strike on Iran, which has triggered a dangerous escalation of hostilities between the two regional powers.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria expressed grave concern over the sustained missile and aerial exchanges between Iran and Israel and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
“The Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria condemns Israel’s preemptive strike on Iran that has led to an escalation of hostilities between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the State of Israel, marked by sustained missile and aerial exchanges across both territories,” the statement read.
Highlighting the threat to regional and international stability, Nigeria warned that the continued cycle of retaliatory attacks not only endangers civilian lives but risks plunging the wider Middle East into deeper chaos.
The country emphasized that such instability carries serious implications for global security and economic development.
“Nigeria expresses its grave concern and calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urges both parties to exercise utmost restraint in the interest of regional and global peace,” the statement added.
Reaffirming its long-standing commitment to peaceful coexistence, non-aggression, and multilateral diplomacy, Nigeria appealed to both parties to embrace dialogue over confrontation. It also called on the international community—particularly the United Nations Security Council—to take urgent steps toward de-escalation.
“As a nation deeply committed to the principles of peaceful coexistence, non-aggression, and multilateral diplomacy, Nigeria calls on all involved to prioritise dialogue over confrontation. We urge the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to intensify efforts toward immediate de-escalation and to provide a platform for constructive engagement.”
Nigeria also reminded the global community that “military action is not a substitute for negotiation,” emphasizing that a sustainable peace can only be achieved through diplomacy, mutual respect, and strict adherence to international law.
“The path to lasting peace lies in diplomacy, mutual respect, and adherence to international law. Nigeria stands ready to support all genuine efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and promoting peace in the region,” the statement concluded.
