President Barrow engages in strategic talks with Erdoğan ahead of OIC summit

In anticipation of the upcoming Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Heads of State and Government Summit, President Adama Barrow of The Gambia received a significant call from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey.

President Erdoğan expressed his regret for not being able to attend the Summit due to pressing national commitments but emphasized the importance of personally updating President Barrow, the host of the 15th OIC Summit, on this matter.


During their conversation, the two leaders delved into several pressing geopolitical issues concerning the Muslim Ummah (community). This included discussions on enhancing bilateral trade between The Gambia and Turkey, aiming to boost economic cooperation and strengthen ties between the two nations.

Additionally, President Erdoğan reiterated Turkey’s commitment to supporting The Gambia’s ongoing security sector reform initiatives, underscoring the importance of regional stability and development.

President Barrow welcomed President Erdoğan’s proactive engagement and affirmed The Gambia’s commitment to deepening collaboration with Turkey across various sectors. The exchange highlighted the mutual interest in fostering closer relations within the broader context of the OIC Summit, where leaders will converge to address key challenges and opportunities facing the Muslim world.
