Gambia: 19 arrested after violent clash at police station
Nineteen individuals have been arrested following a violent assault on the Ngain Sanjal Police Station.
The attack occurred on Friday when tensions reached a boiling point over the detention of a suspect accused of the bizarre crime of ‘snatching manhood.’
The situation erupted as a group of villagers, demanding the suspect’s release, clashed with law enforcement officers. The police, adhering to their duty to uphold the law, refused to free the suspect. In response, the agitated crowd stormed the station, causing extensive damage to property, including a television set, its receiver, the station’s diary, and various other valuable items.
The confrontation turned violent, leading to significant injuries among the officers on duty, necessitating their urgent transfer to Farafenni General Hospital for treatment.
The Gambia Police Force has issued a strong condemnation of the violent actions, urging the public to seek justice through legal means. An extensive investigation is currently underway, with the police committed to bringing the perpetrators of this attack to justice.
