NDLEA cracks down on drug operations, arrests suspects in Nigeria

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant strides in its ongoing battle against drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria.

The agency recently executed a high-profile operation in the upscale Victoria Garden City (VGC) estate in Lekki, Lagos, leading to the seizure of 148 cartons of non-medical nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas.

During this meticulous raid, NDLEA operatives apprehended a female suspect, Suliyat Abdulsalam, who is believed to be intricately connected to the illicit stash. Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy for the NDLEA, confirmed the confiscation, detailing that the operation also yielded 108 cartons of fast gas cylinders, 134 pieces of balloons, and 109 cartons of infusion chargers, among other paraphernalia.

The sweep in Lagos is part of a broader, nationwide crackdown. In Ogun State, NDLEA personnel carried out a significant interception on July 9th, seizing 2,865 kilograms of cannabis from Afami Ibese.

The suspected proprietor of the haul, identified as Umar Ibese, remains at large, with efforts intensifying to apprehend him.

Moreover, the agency’s relentless pursuit of drug eradication extended to Borno State, where a joint operation with the Nigerian Army led to the discovery of 2,455 kilograms of materials intended for the production of Akuskura, a new psychoactive substance (NPS). This operation took place on July 9th in Konduga town, Konduga Local Government Area.

The following day, July 10th, NDLEA operatives in Katsina State captured a 54-year-old man, Sabo Sule, with 47 kilograms of cannabis in Katsina town. These consecutive busts underscore the agency’s unwavering commitment to dismantling drug networks and curbing the proliferation of narcotics within the country.
