Jennifer Lopez files for divorce from Ben Affleck after two years
American singer and actress Jennifer Lopez has officially filed a divorce from Ben Affleck, ending their two-year marriage.
According to TMZ, Lopez filed for divorce in Los Angeles on August 20, listing April 26 as the official date of their separation. The petition did not mention any prenuptial agreement, and it is reported that the couple is no longer on speaking terms.
During their initial romance in the early 2000s, the Hollywood power couple rekindled their relationship nearly two decades later, culminating in their marriage in July 2022.
This marked the fourth marriage for the 55-year-old pop singer and actress and the second for the 52-year-old Oscar-winning actor and director.
The couple first met in 2002 while working on the film ‘Gigli’, which was widely criticised. Despite the film’s failure, their relationship flourished, becoming a media sensation.
They got engaged but postponed their 2003 wedding, eventually breaking up in early 2004. The pair reunited in 2021, with Lopez describing it as a “beautiful love story” that got a second chance.
In April 2022, they announced their engagement again and were married in a low-key Las Vegas ceremony in July, followed by a lavish celebration at Affleck’s estate in Georgia. However, rumours of marital issues began surfacing earlier this year.
Observers noted that Lopez celebrated her 55th birthday without Affleck, and reports indicated that they had sold their joint home, with Affleck moving into a luxury bachelor pad.
Lopez had been married three times before tying the knot with Affleck. She was briefly married to Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998 and Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003.
She and singer Marc Anthony wed in 2004 and were married for a decade, sharing 14-year-old twins.
She then started dating former baseball player Alex Rodriguez in 2017, but the couple called off their engagement in 2021.
