President Barrow welcomes new ambassadors, fosters bilateral relations for prosperous Gambia
His Excellency President Adama Barrow has received the credentials of three newly accredited Ambassadors at the State House in Banjul.
The diplomats included Mrs. Kalzeube Neldinkingar Madjimta from the Republic of Chad, Mr. Karl Frederick Paul, the United Nations System Country Representative, and MarÃa Dolores RÃos Peset, the Ambassador from the Kingdom of Spain.
Each Ambassador presented their credentials to President Barrow, who warmly congratulated them and their respective Heads of State.
Following the presentations, the President engaged in cordial discussions with each diplomat, emphasizing the importance of strengthening international ties.
In a bilateral meeting with Ambassador Madjimta from Chad, President Barrow underscored the potential for African nations to bolster bilateral relations and enhance cooperation, particularly in facilitating the free movement of goods and services.
He expressed gratitude to former President of Chad H.E. Mahamat Idriss Déby for conducting a peaceful election, highlighting the significance of stability in fostering regional cooperation.
Ambassador Madjimta expressed her appreciation to President Barrow for accepting her credentials and acknowledged his effective coordination with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
She reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening the bilateral relationship between The Gambia and Chad, signaling a positive outlook for collaboration.
Meanwhile, during discussions with Mr. Karl Frederick Paul, the UN System Country Representative, President Barrow expressed optimism regarding the potential for enhanced relations between The Gambia and the United Nations. Conversations focused on pressing issues such as security sector reform, human rights, peacekeeping missions, and the preservation of peace. The President reiterated his dedication to advancing peace missions to promote stability within the region. The new UN representative congratulated President Barrow and the Gambian people on their progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
In talks with the Spanish Ambassador, President Barrow and MarÃa Dolores RÃos Peset expressed their mutual interest in collaborating to combat poverty. The President conveyed gratitude to the Spanish government for its extensive support to The Gambia, highlighting the strength of their bilateral relationship. They also discussed the possibility of exempting diplomatic passport holders from visa requirements, a move that could further enhance diplomatic ties.
Ambassador RÃos Peset committed to improving consular services and introduced the Secular Migration Programme aimed at creating employment opportunities for Gambians in Spain. This initiative reflects both countries’ commitment to fostering economic prospects and strengthening partnerships.
The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including Minister for Defense Honourable Serign Modou Njie, Secretary to Cabinet Mr. Alieu Njie, Bernard Mendy, and Omar Baldeh from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, showcasing a united front in The Gambia’s diplomatic efforts as it seeks to enhance its global standing and foster development through international cooperation.
