Egypt commits to relentless pursuit of Gaza ceasefire
Egyptian and Danish officials convened in Cairo on Monday as part of a diplomatic effort to de-escalate tensions and prevent further violence in the Middle East. Egypt emphasized the importance of achieving a truce in Gaza, which would include an exchange of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelaty underscored Egypt’s determination to end the conflict, stating, “We will not stop, and we will not give up until there is a ceasefire and an end to the aggression against our people in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem.”
Denmark’s Foreign Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, praised Egypt’s continuous efforts to mediate peace and secure a ceasefire, which he said was crucial to preventing further escalation. Rasmussen also plans to visit the Rafah crossing on Tuesday, voicing concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The discussions also explored long-term solutions for peace in the Palestinian territories. Abdelaty stressed, “There can be no solution in the region without ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, with a priority on establishing a state.”
Rasmussen reaffirmed the importance of a two-state solution, adding, “This remains the viable solution to the problem between Israel and Palestine, and it is crucial that we seek a resolution as swiftly as possible.”
