Africom commander, U.S. ambassador hold discussions to strengthen security, common values with Djibouti leaders
To enhance security cooperation and advance shared values, AFRICOM Commander General Michael Langley and U.S. Ambassador to Djibouti Jonathan Kierscht held strategic discussions with key Djiboutian officials.
The high-level engagements included meetings with Djibouti’s Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence, and the Commander of the Djibouti Coast Guard (Garde-Côtes Djiboutienne), focusing on strengthening regional stability and security.
During the discussions, General Langley underscored the importance of collaboration between the United States and Djibouti in ensuring peace and security across the region.
“Djibouti’s strategic position and its role as a security partner are crucial for addressing regional challenges.
Our cooperation allows us to confront shared threats effectively and uphold stability,” he stated.
Ambassador Kierscht reiterated the strong relationship between the two nations, emphasising their mutual commitment to regional development.
“The United States is dedicated to fostering relationships grounded in mutual respect and shared goals.
Djibouti remains a critical partner in promoting peace and ensuring the security of the Horn of Africa,” Kierscht remarked.
Djiboutian officials expressed their readiness to deepen the partnership further. The Minister of Defence praised the ongoing cooperation, stating, “Our shared values and mutual objectives fortify our resolve to address urgent security concerns. These discussions highlight the trust and collaboration between Djibouti and the United States.”
The Commander of the Djibouti Coast Guard added that joint efforts in maritime security remain a cornerstone of the partnership.
The meetings concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to enhancing operational capabilities, tackling regional threats, and fostering long-term stability.
General Langley and Ambassador Kierscht pledged to continue advancing initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security, and mutual prosperity across the region.
