ECOWAS, Germany deepen ties as President Steinmeier visits Abuja headquarters
In a significant step towards enhancing international cooperation, the President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, welcomed the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, during an official visit to the ECOWAS Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, on December 11, 2024. The visit underscored efforts to strengthen collaboration between the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and Germany.
Accompanied by a high-level delegation from the German government, President Steinmeier was received by Dr. Touray and ECOWAS Vice-President H.E. Madame Damtien L. Tchintchibidja. During the working session, President Steinmeier lauded the achievements of ECOWAS, highlighting its dedication to regional development and stability.
“Germany and Europe will continue to stand by the West African community as partners who respect each other’s choices,” President Steinmeier affirmed, emphasizing mutual respect and ongoing support.
The meeting reflects Germany’s commitment to bolstering ties with West Africa, fostering sustainable development, peace, and economic growth in the region.
