Somaliland, Ethiopia reach peaceful resolution over Dacawalay District tensions

Somaliland and Ethiopia have reached a mutual agreement to resolve tensions in the Dacawalay district peacefully. High-ranking officials from both sides, led by Somaliland’s Minister of Interior Security, Mr. Abdalle Mohamed Carab, and Ethiopia’s Eastern Region Commander, General Afgado, met to discuss and agree on measures to end bloodshed and ensure lasting stability in the region.

The Ethiopian delegation was headed by General Afgado, Commander of the Eastern Region, alongside key leaders, including the First Minister of the Ministry of the Presidential Palace and other prominent figures from the regional government.


The discussions, which focused on resolving tensions in the Dacawalay district and its surrounding areas, culminated in a mutual agreement to halt bloodshed and prioritize a peaceful resolution. Both sides committed to ensuring long-term stability in the region to prevent future conflicts.

“The two sides reached full understanding about the situation of Dacawalay district, with the agreement to stop the bloodshed and end the situation with a peaceful solution so that nothing will happen again,” stated Abdullahi Ahmed Caarshe, Director of Media and Communications at the Ministry of Interior Security, Somaliland.

The Somaliland delegation included high-ranking officials such as Minister of the Presidential Palace, Mr. Khadar Hussein Abdi; Minister of Defense, Mohamed Yusuf Ali; Supreme Commander of the National Army, General Nuux Ismail Tani; Chief of Police, General Maxamed Aadan Saqadhi; and the Commander of the Security Organization.

This meeting underscores the commitment of both Somaliland and Ethiopia to fostering regional stability and resolving disputes through dialogue. The peaceful resolution of tensions in Dacawalay district sets a strong precedent for collaboration and diplomacy in addressing cross-border issues.

The outcomes of this meeting are expected to strengthen bilateral relations between Somaliland and Ethiopia, promoting peace and security in the region.
