Senegalese President Faye mediates between Rwanda, DRC amid escalating Eastern Congo crisis

In a proactive diplomatic move, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has engaged in high-level discussions with Rwandan President Paul Kagame and DRC President Félix Tshisekedi in an effort to de-escalate the worsening conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

During the telephone conversations, President Faye expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence in the region, emphasizing the urgent need for dialogue as a pathway to lasting peace.

“It is crucial to explore avenues for open dialogue that will lead to a sustainable resolution and lasting peace,” President Faye stressed.

The discussions highlight Senegal’s growing role in fostering stability and security across Africa. As violence between M23 rebels and DRC forces continues to displace thousands and worsen humanitarian conditions, Faye’s intervention signals Senegal’s commitment to African-led conflict resolution.

While no specific agreements were disclosed, the move underscores Senegal’s willingness to engage in active diplomacy amid one of Africa’s most pressing security crises.

The international community continues to monitor developments, with hopes that regional mediation efforts can pave the way for peaceful negotiations and a de-escalation of tensions in eastern DRC.
