ECOWAS Women Forge Stronger Leadership at Regional Retreat Marking International Women’s Day 2025

The ECOWAS Commission, through its Directorate of Human Resources in collaboration with the ECOWAS Amazon Network, convened a transformative two-day regional retreat from 28 to 29 May 2025 at Zuma Rock, Niger State.

The event was organized to commemorate International Women’s Day 2025, strategically postponed to allow inclusive participation across the region’s religious and cultural spectrum.

Held under the theme “Growth, Purpose and Self-Actualisation,” the retreat also coincided with ECOWAS Day, creating a powerful platform for women staff to reflect, reconnect with their purpose, and deepen leadership capacity.

Renowned Nigerian development expert and leadership coach Dr. Jibuzor Otive facilitated engaging sessions on gender equity, personal SWOT analysis, and building resilience, offering practical tools for strategic empowerment within and beyond the workplace.

Madame Marième Sy, President of the ECOWAS Amazon network, delivered a stirring message, urging participants to redefine success and lead with authenticity. “Define success on your own terms and lead with authenticity,” she encouraged.

The retreat also reaffirmed the regional bloc’s unwavering commitment to gender equality as a core value of ECOWAS Vision 2050, aimed at fostering a more inclusive and people-driven West Africa.
