3 Killed, Dozens Injured in Stadium Fall After MC Alger Title Win

What should have been a night of triumph turned tragic on Sunday when celebrations over MC Alger’s league title victory ended in disaster.

Algeria’s Ministry of Health confirmed that three spectators lost their lives and more than 70 others were injured after a barrier in the upper stands of a stadium gave way, causing dozens of fans to plummet to the lower tier.

The incident occurred shortly after MC Alger secured their second consecutive top-flight title, sparking massive celebrations at the stadium.

According to local media reports, part of the barrier in the upper stand collapsed under pressure from the crowd, leading to a devastating fall.

In a statement shared via Facebook, the Ministry of Health provided a breakdown of the casualties: “The Beni Messous University Hospital received 38 injured people, while three deaths were recorded. Ben Aknoun Hospital also received 27 injured people, while Bab El Oued Hospital received 16.”

MC Alger, mourning one of its own, confirmed the death of a supporter in an Instagram post: “It is with great sadness and sorrow and with hearts that we received the news of our supporter Younes Amguzzi, who passed away after falling from the upper stands.”

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune extended his sympathies to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
