Gambia’s Foreign Minister Tangara Resigns for AU Role

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Dr. Mamadou Tangara, has officially resigned from his ministerial position to take up a new appointment with the African Union.

Dr. Tangara tendered his resignation on Wednesday to the President of the Republic of The Gambia, His Excellency Adama Barrow, who has accepted it.

In a statement, President Barrow expressed appreciation for Tangara’s years of dedicated and professional service to the nation, wishing him success in his new assignment.

“President Barrow has accepted the resignation and thanked Tangara for his dedication, gratitude, and professional service rendered to the nation and wished him success in his new undertakings,” the statement read.

Dr. Tangara served as Foreign Minister under President Barrow from 2018 to 2025.

He now assumes a continental role as the African Union Commission’s Special Representative of the Chairperson in Mali and the Sahel, and Head of the AU Mission for Mali and the Sahel (MISAHEL) in Bamako, Mali.
