Senegalese National Intercepted with Pistol and Live Rounds at Amdalai Border

The Amdalai Border Police have confirmed the interception of a 49-year-old Senegalese national, Papa Dethialao Thiam, found in possession of a pistol and twelve live rounds during a routine screening by the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG) on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
According to police sources, Thiam, who was travelling from Cassamance and transiting through The Gambia en route to Dakar, Senegal, was arrested and handed over to the Amdalai Border Police for further investigation.
During questioning, he produced a valid Senegalese firearm licence and claimed to be an employee of the Senegalese Ministry of Interior.
In line with existing security cooperation agreements between the Gambia Police Force and the Senegalese National Police, and following consultation with Senegalese authorities, Thiam was handed over to them for further action.
The Gambia Police Force reassured the public that safeguarding national security remains its top priority and pledged continued vigilance along all border points.
