Trump Meets World Leaders, Pushes for Peace Talks Between Russia and Ukraine

Former U.S. President Donald J. Trump announced on Monday that he held a high-level meeting at the White House with key European leaders and NATO officials to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine and prospects for peace in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

According to Trump, the meeting was attended by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine, President Emmanuel Macron of France, President Alexander Stubb of Finland, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni of Italy, Prime Minister Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.

Trump stated that the discussions focused on security guarantees to be provided by European countries in coordination with the United States. He expressed optimism about the outcome, saying, “Everyone is very happy about the possibility of PEACE for Russia/Ukraine.”

Following the talks, Trump revealed that he had a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin to begin arrangements for a direct meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy. He added that after this initial engagement, a trilateral meeting involving himself, Zelenskyy, and Putin would take place.

“This was a very good, early step for a war that has been going on for almost four years,” Trump noted. He further disclosed that Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff are leading coordination efforts with both Russia and Ukraine.

Trump concluded his statement by thanking the public for their attention and reaffirming his commitment to advancing peace efforts.
