Ismail Badjie Hails Ambassador Sharon Cromer as “A True Ambassador of the People”

Prominent Gambian voice, Ismail Badjie, has paid glowing tribute to outgoing U.S. Ambassador to The Gambia, Sharon L. Cromer, describing her as one of the most impactful diplomats of his generation.
In his statement, Badjie praised Ambassador Cromer for her deep humanity and lasting contributions to Gambian society. “Ambassador Sharon L. Cromer has truly been one of the most impactful ambassadors of my generation — a true ambassador of the people. She has stood as a champion for countless Gambians, leaving an indelible mark on our nation’s journey,” he said.
Reflecting on her tenure in Banjul, Badjie highlighted how Cromer combined her official duties with empathy and a genuine connection to the people. “From her first day in Banjul, she brought not only the formal duties of her office but also a deep sense of humanity, empathy, and genuine connection with our people. Her unwavering commitment to empowering women and girls, amplifying the voices of artists, engaging grassroots communities, and fostering partnerships has gone beyond diplomacy — it has been a service of the heart.”
He further noted that Ambassador Cromer’s leadership and advocacy will be fondly remembered. “Ambassador Cromer, you will be dearly missed. Cromer, who has served as U.S. Ambassador to The Gambia since 2022, has been widely recognized for her commitment to women’s empowerment, cultural exchange, and grassroots development during her diplomatic mission.
