Over 300 Killed in Domestic Violence Cases in Bangladesh in Seven Months

Domestic violence has claimed more than 300 lives across Bangladesh in the first seven months of 2025, according to new data released by rights group Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK).
According to the report, between January and July, ASK recorded 363 incidents of family violence, leading to 322 deaths. Of those killed, 208 were women and children, while 114 others died by suicide.
The majority of the killings were allegedly committed by husbands, followed by in-laws and women’s own family members.
The report highlights not only the fatalities but also the thousands of women who continue to seek urgent protection.
Data from the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs shows that “its national helpline (109) received 48,745 calls for assistance between January and July”.
Taken together, figures from ASK, the helpline (109), and the police emergency line (999) underscore the widespread scale of domestic abuse in Bangladesh, where rights groups warn that hundreds of women lose their lives every year and many more live under constant threat.
