The Honourable Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST), Hon. Professor Pierre Gomez, took center stage alongside the United States Ambassador to The Gambia, Her Excellency Sharon L. Cromer, to unveil the newly constructed American Corner.

The inauguration ceremony, held on Tuesday, marked the establishment of a symbolic citadel of knowledge and cultural exchange in the heart of Fajara.

In his opening address, Hon. Professor Pierre Gomez eloquently portrayed the American Corner as a long-awaited bastion of enlightenment.

He emphasized its pivotal role in advancing education, promoting literacy, and reinforcing the shared principles that bind The Gambia and the United States.

The Minister articulated that the Corner would stand as a testament to the unwavering dedication to intellectual growth, embodying a hub for knowledge acquisition, investigation, and the exchange of ideas.

“The corner serves as a symbol of the lasting camaraderie between our nations, assuming a crucial function in cultivating the cognitive development of individuals, advancing intercultural comprehension, and cultivating a spirit of togetherness within our society,” declared Hon. Gomez.

Expressing gratitude to the American Embassy, Hon. Gomez praised their steadfast commitment and unwavering assistance in education. He reiterated the Gambian government’s appreciation for the significant contributions of the American Embassy in promoting education in the country.

In her address, Ambassador Sharon L. Cromer announced that the Fajara American Corner would be a vibrant platform where the core values and cherished traditions of both nations would come to life.

The facility, she noted, provides free access to numerous resources, enabling individuals to delve into American history and culture, acquire new skills, and explore diverse topics.

“It will be a place for workshops, lectures, and events that foster understanding, tolerance, and appreciation of our similarities and differences,” explained Ambassador Cromer.

She concluded by encouraging Gambian entrepreneurs, especially women, to utilize the Corner for collaboration, paving the way for dreams that would contribute to economic development.
