In a press conference held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, Commissioner Botto Keita, the Regional Crime Officer for the West Coast Region, announced the arrest of Mr Bangura, a Sierra Leonean national, in connection with the heinous murder of British resident Shakina Chinedu. The crime occurred within an unfinished building.

A senior investigator provided a detailed account of the case, revealing that the swift investigation began immediately after Chinedu was reported missing on February 14, 2024.

According to the senior investigator, Bangura, the suspect, promptly confessed to the crime after being taken into custody.

During interrogation, he guided law enforcement to the crime scene, where the lifeless body of the British woman was discovered in a soak-away.

The senior investigator disclosed that Bangura had assaulted Chinedu with a hammer on the back of her neck, causing her to collapse. Subsequently, he dragged her into the soak-away and covered her with sand using a spade.

“After initiating the investigation, the suspect was promptly apprehended and subsequently confessed to the crime,” stated the senior investigator.

“He guided the police to the crime scene for the recovery of the British woman’s body buried in a soak-away.”

Further examination revealed that Bangura had stolen the victim’s phones, laptops, and cash. Law enforcement is diligently preparing to present the suspect in court, although he will remain in custody until the investigation is complete, as a firearm was found in his possession.

“The suspect also assisted in locating and recovering the stolen items, including phones, laptops, and cash belonging to the victim.

“Preparations for presenting the case in court are underway. However, the suspect will be held in custody until the investigation is concluded due to the discovery of a pistol in his possession,” he concluded.

The police emphasized their commitment to ensuring justice for Shakina Chinedu.
