Gambia: President Barrow champions investment in affordable housing

The Gambian President, Adama Barrow, has welcomed a delegation from Global Properties, led by CEO Saul Fraser, for discussions on strategic investments in housing and infrastructure development across the country.

During the session, Ms. Ngilan Fye, the Business Developer of Global Properties, delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting the company’s diverse engagements and recent advancements in property development.

President Barrow expressed admiration for the progress achieved by Global Properties over the past decade and urged them to prioritize the construction of affordable housing to accommodate the expanding middle-class population.

Impressed by the company’s success story, President Barrow encouraged skilled Gambians abroad to return home and participate in innovative investments that contribute to national development. He emphasized the importance of a secure and conducive business environment, ensuring investors feel confident and protected by stable legal frameworks.

The discussions extended to crucial topics such as land administration and policy reform to regulate land operators effectively. President Barrow reassured the delegation of ongoing government efforts to enhance sector regulation and create a transparent land management system.

Infrastructure development emerged as a focal point during the meeting, with President Barrow outlining ambitious plans for transportation, particularly river transport. He disclosed that The Gambia had secured a grant from the African Development Bank for a detailed feasibility study aimed at addressing the longstanding Banjul-Barra crossing challenge. President Barrow highlighted the significance of this study in attracting investors interested in projects like the Banjul-Barra bridge, emphasizing that comprehensive planning is essential for successful infrastructure ventures.

On the sidelines, Investment Expert Mr. Abdoulie Touray presented President Barrow with three unpublished books, further enriching the exchange of ideas and insights during the gathering.

Accompanying the Global Properties team was General Manager Musa Ceesay, underscoring the collaborative spirit between private enterprises and the government in advancing Gambia’s economic and developmental agendas.
