CEREEC illuminates 3 Ghanaian hospitals

The Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CEREEC) has proudly launched transformative solarization projects in three hospitals across Ghana.

This significant initiative encompasses a 61KWp solar power system at Finney Hospital, a 21KWp system at Barnor Memorial Hospital, and a 30KWp system at Mother-Love Hospital.

Developed in collaboration with Tradeworks Limited, a renowned local solar energy company, these projects have benefited from technical support and co-funding from CEREEC through the ECOWAS Special Intervention Fund (ESIF).

The solar systems are designed to provide an uninterrupted power supply to the hospitals, thereby substantially enhancing the quality of healthcare services delivered to their respective communities.

The official inauguration at Finney Hospital was a landmark event, graced by distinguished guests including Mr. Seth Mahu, Director for Renewable Energy, representing the Minister of Energy of Ghana; Mr. Kofi Agyarko, Director for Renewables and Energy Efficiency of the Ghana Energy Commission, representing the Executive Secretary; Mr. Jean Francis Sempore, Executive Director of CEREEC; Dr. Allen Steele-Dadzie, Principal Clinical Director of Finney Hospital; and Mr. Randy Sey, Executive Director of Tradeworks Limited.

These solarization projects represent a pivotal advancement in the region’s healthcare infrastructure. By ensuring a reliable and sustainable power source, the initiative mitigates the frequent disruptions caused by power outages, allowing medical facilities to operate at optimal efficiency.

Mr. Seth Mahu, in his address, emphasized the critical role of renewable energy in bolstering healthcare services.

“This initiative is a testament to our commitment to integrating sustainable energy solutions into essential services.

“By powering these hospitals with solar energy, we not only enhance their operational reliability but also contribute to environmental sustainability,” he remarked.

Mr. Kofi Agyarko highlighted the broader impact of the project, noting, “The deployment of these solar systems is a strategic move towards achieving energy security and resilience in our healthcare sector. It sets a precedent for future projects and underscores the importance of renewable energy in national development.”

CEREEC’s Executive Director, Mr. Jean Francis Sempore, expressed his enthusiasm for the project’s potential to transform healthcare delivery. “These solar systems are more than just an energy solution; they are a lifeline for the hospitals and the communities they serve. Dr. Allen Steele-Dadzie of Finney Hospital shared insights on the operational benefits, saying, “Uninterrupted power is crucial for the continuous operation of our medical equipment and ensuring patient safety. This project significantly enhances our capacity to provide quality healthcare services without the hindrance of power interruptions.”

Mr. Randy Sey of Tradeworks Limited echoed these sentiments, underscoring the importance of local partnerships in driving sustainable development. “Our collaboration with CEREEC has been instrumental in realizing these projects.
