Nigerian legendary singer Onyeka Onwenu dies at 72

The Nigerian entertainment industry has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of veteran singer and actress Onyeka Onwenu. The legendary artist reportedly passed away on Tuesday night at the age of 72.

Onwenu collapsed during the birthday celebration of Mrs. Stella Okoli and was rushed to Reddington Hospital in Lagos. Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.


An eyewitness at the party recounted the tragic event, stating, “It is very sad. Onyeka Onwenu just performed at the birthday of Mrs. Stella Okoli today, and after performing, she slumped. She was taken to Reddington Hospital, and she couldn’t make it.”

As of now, the family has yet to make an official announcement regarding her passing.

Onyeka Onwenu’s illustrious career spanned several decades, earning her a cherished place in the hearts of many Nigerians.
