Dodzie Numekevor, Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has stepped down from his position after a directive from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Numekevor, who served in the role for six months, has handed over his duties to the Chairman of the Governing Board, per the President’s instructions.

His departure aligns with his decision to focus on his political aspirations, having filed his nomination to contest for the Sege Constituency Parliamentary seat under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) banner. The move allows Numekevor to concentrate fully on his campaign as he seeks to represent his constituency in Parliament.

During his tenure at the NSA, Numekevor faced the challenge of managing Ghana’s sports facilities, which had come under scrutiny, particularly with the condition of the Baba Yara Stadium. Although the Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently withdrew its approval for the stadium due to technical issues, Numekevor’s leadership marked a period of renewed attention to the need for facility upgrades across the country.

Numekevor previously served as a Public Relations Officer at the Ghana High Commission in the UK, and his efforts at the NSA were focused on enhancing the nation’s sports infrastructure and helping the agency regain its former glory. President Akufo-Addo extended his gratitude for Numekevor’s service and wished him well in his future endeavors.

As the NSA transitions to new leadership, the focus will remain on upgrading sports facilities to meet international standards and preparing for upcoming sports events. Numekevor’s decision to step aside to pursue a parliamentary career represents an important step in his commitment to public service, both on the sports field and in politics.
