Senegal’s opposition coalition, Takku Wallu Senegal, has named former President Macky Sall as its lead candidate for the upcoming legislative elections on November 17. This decision highlights Sall’s enduring influence and the coalition’s determination to challenge the ruling Pastef party’s dominance in parliament.

Sall, who previously stepped down in favor of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, is returning to the political stage with the goal of uniting the opposition and rebuilding momentum. His leadership is expected to invigorate the coalition as it seeks to secure a majority in the National Assembly.

Meanwhile, the ruling Pastef party is backing Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, setting the stage for a highly anticipated political showdown between two of Senegal’s most prominent figures. The outcome of the legislative elections is seen as a key indicator for the 2024 presidential race.
