Nigeria’s first lady, Oluremi Tinubu, donates N100 million to victims of Niger tanker explosion

In a heartfelt gesture of compassion, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N100 million to support families affected by the tragic tanker explosion in Niger State.
The explosion, which occurred on January 18 along Diko-Maje Road in Gurara Local Government Area, claimed several lives and left many others injured.
It was gathered that during a condolence visit to Governor Umaru Bago at the Niger State Government House in Minna on Tuesday, Mrs. Tinubu announced the financial aid, emphasizing the need to support victims in their time of distress. She explained that the donation would be disbursed through the governor’s wife, Hajiya Fatima Bago, to ensure direct assistance to the affected families.
“We are looking at supporting about 70 families through the governor’s wife, Hajiya Fatima Bago, with each family receiving N1 million to help them settle. The remaining money will cover extra expenses like food items,” Mrs. Tinubu stated.
Commending Governor Bago for his efforts in rehabilitating victims, she also acknowledged his administration’s strides in agriculture and development.
In response, Governor Bago expressed deep appreciation for the First Lady’s visit and donation, describing it as a much-needed morale booster for the people of Niger State.
“The visit will serve as a morale booster to people who have been affected by the tanker explosion at Diko-Junction. We appreciate your widow’s mite, for donating N100 million through my wife to support the victims’ families,” the governor said.
Accompanying the First Lady on the visit were Hajiya Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President, and Hajiya Fatima Bago, wife of the Niger State governor. Mrs. Tinubu also took the opportunity to pay a private visit to former military rulers, Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, further strengthening ties with the state’s leadership.
The generous donation underscores the commitment of the Tinubu administration to providing humanitarian aid in times of crisis, reinforcing the government’s support for communities in need.
