Ghana,Gambia collaborate to launch free roaming services

Ghana and The Gambia are collaborating to implement a free roaming initiative aimed at improving digital connectivity across West Africa. Led by Ghana’s Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation and the National Communications Authority (NCA), the program will allow mobile users in both countries to make calls, send messages, and use data without incurring additional roaming charges.

This initiative aligns with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Free Roaming Initiative, which seeks to eliminate communication barriers across member states. By fostering seamless regional communication, the plan is expected to enhance trade, tourism, and economic integration.

The free roaming framework mirrors Ghana’s previous successes with Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, and Benin, where similar agreements have been implemented.

Talks are underway to extend the partnership to Liberia, further cementing Ghana’s role as a leader in regional digital transformation.

By reducing communication costs, the initiative aims to boost economic activity, streamline business transactions, and encourage cross-border travel.

Additionally, it serves as a model for other West African nations to adopt similar frameworks, contributing to a more interconnected and economically integrated region.

This collaboration between Ghana and The Gambia highlights the potential of technology to bridge national borders, fostering cultural exchange and regional growth.
