US Consulate highlights $11.3bn Nigeria-US trade growth, celebrates collaboration
The United States Consulate in Lagos has celebrated the significant growth in Nigeria-US trade, with bilateral trade volumes increasing from $10 billion to $11.3 billion within the past year. This milestone, acknowledged during a Thanksgiving event hosted by the Consulate and the American Business Council (ABC), underscores the strengthening ties between the two nations.
US Consul-General Will Stevens highlighted the progress during the event, emphasizing the importance of US companies’ contributions to local communities. Stevens noted that US investments in Nigeria go beyond trade, extending into educational and cultural development. Key initiatives like *EducationUSA* and 27 American Spaces have supported Nigerian students seeking opportunities in the US while fostering cultural exchange.
The American Business Council, representing over 91 US companies in Nigeria, has been instrumental in advancing these ties. Its CEO, Margaret Olele, stressed the long-term commitment of US businesses to capacity building and social impact. Recent collaborations, including digital skills training programs for Nigerian youth, highlight the Council’s focus on creating sustainable growth.
Stevens, nearing the end of his tenure, reflected on the positive trajectory of Nigeria-US relations, from increased trade to high-level bilateral engagements like the Binational Commission meeting. He expressed pride in the collaborative efforts that have shaped these achievements and reaffirmed his dedication to fostering stronger ties between the nations.
