Gambia: Brusubi Driver Charged for Dangerous Driving, Jailed for Unlicensed Driving

Police in Brusubi have charged and prosecuted a driver, Amadou Bah of Wullinkama, for dangerous and reckless driving that caused an accident in the neighborhood.
According to the police, on Saturday, 16th August 2025, at about 3:00 p.m., a report was received of a vehicle drifting dangerously in Brusubi. The vehicle, with registration number BJL 6603 W, knocked down a NAWEC electrical pole and was later abandoned at the scene.
“Police visited the scene and secured the vehicle for examination. Witness statements were obtained, and a case file was opened,” the report stated.
The driver was later identified and arrested. He was subsequently charged with two offenses: dangerous driving, contrary to Section 49(1) of the Motor Traffic Act, and unlicensed driving, contrary to Section 36 of the Motor Traffic Act.
When arraigned before Magistrate K. Baldeh of the Brusubi Magistrates’ Court, Bah pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving but admitted guilt to the charge of unlicensed driving. He was fined D1,000 and handed a mandatory four-month jail term.
The case has been adjourned to 25th August 2025 for continuation of proceedings on the dangerous driving charge.
