Senegal mourns Professor Amadou Mahtar Mbow
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has expressed his deep sorrow at the passing of Professor Amadou Mahtar Mbow, the former Director-General of UNESCO and a steadfast advocate for multilateralism.
In a poignant statement from New York during the United Nations General Assembly, President Faye remarked, “It is with profound emotion that I learn of the disappearance of Professor Amadou Mahtar Mbow, a great defender of multilateralism.”
He reflected on Mbow’s significant contributions to Senegal and the world, stating, “He was one of the patriarchs of the Senegalese nation, who has departed, leaving behind an invaluable legacy characterized by his fight for global educational and cultural justice.”
