Gambia advances digital transformation with $180,000 ECOWAS grant

The Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy (MoCDE) has inked a pivotal $180,000 grant agreement with the ECOWAS Commission, aimed at catalyzing the modernization of government operations and bolstering online services in The Gambia.

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Ousman Bah, expressed profound gratitude to the ECOWAS Commission for their steadfast support towards The Gambia’s digital transformation agenda. The grant, totaling 16 million dalasis, will play a crucial role in digitizing public services and promoting digital governance across the nation.


Dr. Omar Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, emphasized that the grant aims to stimulate digital innovation and empower Gambian citizens through enhanced digital infrastructure. Over the past two years, ECOWAS has allocated close to 130 million dalasis in support across various sectors, demonstrating a commitment to fostering growth and development within member states.

Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, Minister of Information, extended gratitude on behalf of President Adama Barrow to the ECOWAS delegation, commending Dr. Touray’s dedication to supporting member states like The Gambia in their pursuit of digital transformation and governance enhancement.
